We’re pleased to announce the expansion of IBAN usage at Sohar International, in line with the guidance of the Central Bank of Oman. Starting from 01 July 2025, the use of IBAN will be mandatory for all cross-border payments.

IBAN is a globally recognised standard format for identifying bank accounts across borders which streamlines automation and offers faster transactions, reduced errors and enhanced international collaboration.

IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. It's a globally recognised standard format for identifying bank accounts across borders, streamlining international payments for both you and your beneficiaries. Your existing account number will remain unchanged but will be incorporated into a new, standardised IBAN format.

IBAN is an internationally accepted, reliable, and accurate account number that facilitates fund transfer with less cost and errors.

Your existing account number will remain unchanged but will be integrated into a new, standardised IBAN format. This format includes additional information like country codes and check digits, facilitating streamlined international processing.
 

While your existing account number remains the same, some systems may require you to update your account details with the new IBAN format. We'll provide clear instructions and support throughout the transition process.

IBAN enables end-to-end processing, meaning your international payments will be processed faster potentially leading to lower transaction costs and quicker delivery of funds to beneficiaries.

Customers will start using the IBAN in receiving or making international transfers effective 01/07/2025.
