At Sohar International, we strive to evolve with our customers’ dynamic lifestyle. This new feature on our Debit Card is just one of the many steps we are taking to ensure our offerings remain relevant and forward-thinking.
The following Terms and Conditions (“T&C”) govern the issuance and usage of the ‘Foreign currency” Debit Card (“Card”) linked to single or multiple foreign currency account(s) maintained with the Bank.
“Bank” refers to [Sohar International].
“Cardholder” refers to the customer to whom the Card has been issued.
“Linked Accounts” means foreign currency account(s) linked to the Card.
“Primary Account” means the primary foreign currency account linked to the card and designated for transactions.
“Transaction Currency” means the currency in which a payment or withdrawal is made.
The Card is available only to cardholders holding eligible foreign currency accounts.
The Card cannot be linked to any local currency account. i.e. account in Omani Rials
The cardholder must maintain all linked accounts in good standing.
The Card allows access to multiple supported foreign currency (account(s) using a single physical or digital card.
Transactions made in a currency matching one of the linked accounts will be debited directly from that account.
Where the transaction currency does not match the currency of any linked account, the primary account will be used for the debit. Fee and commission will be applied as per Bank Tariff.
The Card is issued under the Visa scheme and is not available under the local scheme (Maal) variant.
A primary foreign currency account will be assigned at the time of card issuance.
The Cardholder can change primary account through bank channel (Mobile Banking)
All non-matching currency transactions will be settled in the primary account. Fee will be applied as per the Bank’s approved tariff schedule.
All transactions are subject to applicable daily and monthly transaction limits defined by the Bank.
Transaction values are posted to the corresponding linked account based on the transaction currency.
Transactions in unsupported currencies will be converted as per Visa exchange rate policy and will be debited and charged to the primary account.
If the selected account has insufficient funds, the transaction will be declined, even if another linked account holds sufficient balance.
The cardholder may receive a notification indicating the decline reason and related account currency.
Cardholder holds the responsibility for maintaining sufficient balance in the respective foreign currency accounts. Bank does not hold any responsibility for any such decline
The cardholder can link or delink eligible foreign currency accounts through the bank channel only (Mobile Banking).
The cardholder can view the primary and linked accounts under the “Manage Card” option in the Mobile App.
The Bank reserves the right to restrict or delink any account at its discretion due to operational, compliance, or risk considerations.
Existing debit cardholders opting for card replacement will automatically receive the new foreign currency Debit Card.
Replacement may be issued as a Physical or Digital Card depending on cardholder selection.
Applicable fees shall be as per the Bank’s approved tariff schedule. Refer to the bank website.
Foreign currency conversion fees, if any, will apply to transactions conducted in unsupported currencies.
The bank reserves the right to review, amend, or revise the applicable fees, commission and the charges related to this product or service at any time, in accordance with the bank internal policies and regulatory requirements. Such revisions may be implemented without prior notification to the cardholder. Any updates to fees or commissions will be communicated on the bank official website and other designate communication channels.
SMS alerts will include transaction currency, amount, and balance of the respective account.
In case of insufficient balance, the SMS alert will specify the account currency and decline reason.
The Bank shall not be liable for any delay or non-receipt of SMS alerts due to telecom or system issues.
Any dispute regarding a transaction must be reported within 30 days of the transaction date.
The Bank’s records will be considered final and binding.
The Bank shall not be liable for losses arising from unauthorized usage, misuse, or cardholder negligence.
Transactions in non-linked currencies shall be converted as per bank/Visa’s prevailing exchange rate.
The exchange rate applied at settlement may differ from that at transaction time.
The Bank may suspend or terminate the card at its discretion if misuse, fraud, or regulatory breach is suspected.
Upon closure, all linked accounts remain subject to their individual terms and conditions.
By activating or using the card, the cardholders acknowledge and agree that they have read, understood and accepted the bank Terms and conditions governing the issuance and use of the card as well as those applicable to the accounts (s). The cardholder further agrees to be bound by any amendments, modification or supplements to these Terms and Conditions that may be issued or communicated by the ban from time to time through its official channels.
The Bank reserves the absolute right, at its sole discretion, to add, remove, or restrict any currency or account type linked to the Card at any time and without prior notice to the Cardholder. The Bank may, at its discretion, announce such changes through its official communication channels, including its website, but shall not be obligated to do so.
The Bank shall, at all times, ensure full compliance with the governance standards, regulations, and directives issued by the Central Bank of Oman and the scheme provider, and any changes made under this clause shall be in accordance with such regulatory requirements.
It is one debit card that lets you use multiple foreign currency accounts. You don’t need a separate debit card for each currency.

No, you can link all eligible foreign currency accounts to one single debit card.
International transaction charges will apply, and the amount will be debited from your primary account.
Yes. If the matching linked account lacks a sufficient balance, the transaction will be declined, even if your other linked accounts have funds.
Yes, you can change your primary account anytime using the mobile banking app.
Your debit card will be automatically closed.
Nothing changes. Your debit card will continue to work normally.
Yes, local OMR transactions are allowed, and the amount will be debited from your primary account.
Yes, you can withdraw cash both locally and internationally, subject to currency matching and applicable FX rules.
There is no fixed limit. Currently, you can link up to 8 foreign currency accounts to this card.
Always choose to be billed in the local currency of the country you are visiting. If you choose your home currency, the FX charges will be applicable, and you will miss out the free FX benefits.
Yes. For security reasons, your linking preference does not carry over to a new card. once you receive your new card. You must login into the mobile banking app and activate the card and link your foreign currency account again.
Yes. Once you link or unlink currency account inside the Sohar international mobile banking app, the changes instantly apply to your physical card as well as any digital wallet where the card is tokenized.
No, this debit card can only be linked to eligible foreign currency accounts.
